Vinci Code CLI

Vinci Code CLI is an open-source terminal coding agent from SimpleDirect®. It is a distribution of Pi , the MIT-licensed agent harness by Mario Zechner. Vinci’s additions and upstream attribution are documented in the public repository .

Managed service under maintenance. Vinci-managed authentication and inference depend on the managed service. Direct/BYOK uses your selected provider instead; provider access, charges and policies apply. No service return date is announced here.

Install

The installation instructions reviewed for this update  record the source revision used for these examples. Check the current README  for subsequent environment and installation changes. The public README reviewed September 28, 2026 specifies Node.js 22.19 or newer, macOS or Linux, and platform sandbox requirements. Follow its requirements before building from source:

./vinci/bin/vinci

The signed installer remains documented upstream:

curl -fsSL https://vinci.getsimpledirect.com/install | sh

Use vinci --version for your installed version and the release records  for changes. A repository tag and an installer channel are distinct records; do not infer your installed version from a documentation example.

Connect a provider

Start the CLI and use /login to select authentication, then /model to select a model. Direct/BYOK does not require a Vinci account. Keep credentials out of source control and follow the CLI privacy documentation  for the selected mode.

Run /help for installed commands and /security for active controls. A local agent can edit files and execute tools: review changes and verify results. Guards, redaction and sandbox controls are not a guarantee of correctness or independent certification. Configuration and environment affect which protections are active.
